Interesting facts about the history of the castle and town

XII century In the middle of the 12th century the first settlement was established here.
XIII century The first defensive structures were built in Lanckorona in the 13th century.
XIV century In the middle of the 14th century the brick castle in Lanckorona was built by Casimir the Great. The reason for its location was to defend the Polish border with the Duchy of Oświęcim, which at that time was part of the Czech coalition.
1361 In 1361 Lanckorona was granted city rights.
April 1433 In April 1433 a Hussite detachment led by Biedrzych passed through Lanckorona and reached Spiš where they captured and demolished Kežmarok already on April 25th. Afterwards, with great spoils, it returned to Bohemia via Moravia.
1574 In 1574 the castle in Lanckorona was appropriated by force by the Sieradz voivode Olbracht Łaski, despite the fact that it belonged to the widow of the starost Mikołaj Wolski. Although the Polish king Stefan Batory settled the dispute in favour of the woman, the royal army had to be used to regain the castle.
1655 On 30 September 1655 the Lanckorona stronghold was surrendered to the Swedes without a fight by the crown swordsman Michał Zebrzydowski.After eight months the retreating descendants of the Vikings burnt down the castle and the town.
1768 In 1768 the castle in Lanckorona was conquered by Bar Confederates under the command of Maurycy Beniowski, and then it was turned into a hard-to-capture fortress.
1769 In November 1769 a commander of confederates, Casimir Pułaski, fought a victorious skirmish with Russian troops in the area of the castle.
20 February 1771 On February 20, 1771 Russian corps led by Alexander Suvorov tried to capture the fortress, but the siege failed.
21 May 1771 On the 21st of May 1771 the Battle of Lanckorona took place near the castle. The clash ended with the defeat of confederates. The stronghold remained unconquered.
8 June 1772 Attempts to capture the castle lasted until 8 June 1772 and ended with the surrender of the confederate crew. The castle was occupied by the Austrian invaders.
