Interesting facts about the history of the castle and town

XII century The oldest traces of settlement in the area of today's Pułtusk come the 12th century.

1232 The first fortified town in Pułtusk was established around 1232.

1257 In 1257 the first foundation of Pułtusk took place on the initiative of Siemowit I.

November 1324 In November 1324 Pułtusk was destroyed by the troops of Daniel, Gediminas' governor in Grodno (Hrodna).

1339 In 1339 the bishop of Płock ,Klemens Pierzchała , granted Pułtusk town rights under Chełmno law.

1368 In 1368 Pułtusk was destroyed during a Lithuanian looting raid.

XIV century The first Gothic castle in Pułtusk was built in the 14th century.

1449 In 1449 the bishop of Płock, Paweł Giżycki, financed the construction of the collegiate basilica of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Pułtusk.

XVI century In the 16th century the Pułtusk Castle was extended in the Renaissance style.

1590 In 1590 King Sigismund III Vasa was a guest in the Pułtusk castle.

1635 In 1635 Wladyslaw IV Vasa visited Pułtusk. He took part in handing over the silver herms for the relics of St. Ursula and St. Wladyslaw to the local Jesuits.

1655-1660 During the Swedish Deluge the castle in Pułtusk was destroyed.

May 1703 In May 1703 king Charles XII of Sweden lived at the castle in Pułtusk.

5 October 1704 On October 5, 1704 August II the Strong stayed at the castle in Pułtusk.

1806 In 1806 Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte resided in Pułtusk.
